I've had a few new followers over the past few days so I wanted to say a big, fat hello and welcome to those of you have probably found me through a blog post I wrote for Spoonflower. In case you missed it, I designed a fabric using clippings from an old newspaper from the day that my mum was born.
You can read about how I did it by clicking here. I want to stress that I'm definitely not a professional designer in any way - I used my camera and Picasa to make this design so it's honestly accessible to everyone. If I can do it, you can too!
Anyway, thanks for stopping by. It's always nice to know I'm not rabbiting on to myself :O)
I saw your Spoonflower post and I think it's genius! I've never used them to do my own designs but this and your fingerprint dress are so inspiring.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm off to freshly mix my mustard and find some Eve Toilet Soap to maintain my radiantly youthful complexion.
Hehehe, not sure that the Eve Toilet Soap will still be in date. Might do more harm than good, these days!
DeleteI loved your spoonflower post! So creative and special!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
DeleteJust curious....did you have it printed on a whole yard of fabric? Was it just centered and then you cut it down to the size you needed? I think this idea is BRILLIANT! I have visited spoonflower before, but not being a graphic designer, I didn't really think I would be able to design something. I love this idea. Great work!
ReplyDeleteHi Janelle, yes, I had my design printed onto 1 yard of fabric. I saved the file in Picasa as 36" x 36" and when I uploaded it to the Spoonflower website, I centered it and selected 1 yard. When I got my hands on the fabric, I trimmed it around the edges slightly (leaving some of the white of the original silk the design is printed on, for a bit of contrast) so that I could hem it. I honestly am not a designer either - I'm sure you'd easily be able to do it! My scarf really looks amazing (even if I do say so myself!!) Good luck - let me know if you try it?
Deletesaw your spoonflower post... amazing!! what a great idea :)
ReplyDeleteGotta go check out your post on Spoonflower! I love looking at old newspapers, especially the ads, and these ones are pretty fun! While I haven't designed my own fabric on Spoonflower, I sure appreciate other people's design skills. Hey, it's a tough job (being an appreciator of other people's art), but someone has to do it, right? :-)
ReplyDeleteThis idea and the one with the recipes made into handtowels are about the coolest ideas I have seen in a long while
